QlikView Your BusinessOne of the advantages newbie QlikView developers have is the fact that — besides a knowledge rich Qlik community — there are more than dozen QlikView books on Amazon to spruce up your QlikView knowledge.

One more book has arrived on the scene. And this tome is written by no other than one of the superstars, Oleg Troyansky.

To its credit, this book has been reviewed by none other than Henric Cronström whose knowledge of QlikView has helped all of us for a long time. And we all know Rob Wunderlich and his equally well written blog QlikView cookbook.

That said, why do you want to invest in this book? Good question. Let me breakdown reasons for you.

1. Comprehensive:

The book covers gamut of topics both from QlikView scripting and user interface perspective. It also covers basics of Qlik Sense. For new developers and experienced QlikView developers alike, this book offers nuances for developers with various skill set.

2. Content:

Another salient aspect of this book is the fact that it uses a fictitious company to walk you through the entire process of QlikView application development step-by-step. In addition, the book is in full colors.

Considering importance visualization plays in providing insight to any organization using a QlikView application, colors aid significantly in your cognitive ability to grasp various aspects of QlikView development.

And the book does an awesome job of showing warnings in Red and important notes in Amber colors. Authors have done excellent job of using colors effectively to relay nuances of QlikView development.

For those of you who are experienced do know idiosyncrasies involved with QlikView development and this book has well laid content to put you on a fast track with these details to master the tool.

Needless to say, you will see familiar colors while writing expressions using a script editor; colors alone make it worth an investment in this book.

3.  Advanced topics:

Some of my favorite topics such as AGGR function, Set Analysis and Alternate States have been explained well. This comes as no surprise considering the fact that Oleg, Tammy and Charlie have years of experience and that comes across while going through these advanced topics.

Summary:

Wiley is know for its reputation as a high quality publishing house. Oleg and team has done excellent job to add another classic book in Wiley’s impressive list of books. This book is must — among handful of other classic QlikView books — for anyone who wants to become an awesome QlikView developer.
